The Proclamation, signed on July 16 urged the citizens of Minneapolis "to make an effort to eat plant-based food and choose plant-based products in furtherance of our environmental goals, and celebrate our ongoing commitment to exceed the standards put forth in the Paris Agreement by doing our part".
Frey stated in the Proclamation that "if each American affirmatively chose to eat plant-based foods at just one meal per week, the CO2 [carbon dioxide] savings would be the same as taking more than half a millions cars off U.S. roads".
Senator Cory Booker, from New Jersey, the only vegan in the US senate history, told a group at a vegan pop-up even in Ashbury Park, NJ, that the "Vegan consciousness is growing in our country", and encouraged those who are "conscious of the environment" and "against cruelty to animals".
The Trump administration's withdawal from the Paris Agreement signed by almost 195 other countires, put the United States on record as the only nation in the world to withdraw from the fight to mitigate and reverse the devastating consquences of climate change.
This has left the onus in America on concerned local governments, corporations and individuals to mobilize and try to reduce greenhouse gas emissions before our warming planet reaches the point of no return.
