Can we fix the Pacific Garbage Patch?

The water bottle could be from Los Angeles, the food container from Manila and the plastic bag from Shanghai. 

But whatever its source, almost all of the trash in the infamous Great Pacific Garbage Patch comes from countries around the Pacific Rim, including Canada.

GruntVegan: The Great Pacific garbage patch, also described as the Pacific trash vortex, is a gyre of marine debris in the central North Pacific Ocean. Discovered between 1984 and 1988, it is a collection of floating trash, plastic, chemical sludge, and other debris, located halfway between Hawaii and California.
